“Growing up in Surrey I went to a private school. Their philosophy: think of everyone before yourself, influenced me. When I started as a manager, I sat at the nurses’ station instead of my office so I became part of the team. As a leader, you need to be authentic.
Managing the ER is challenging, but I’m so lucky to work with an amazing team and we’ve focused on improving patient flow to provide the best care we can. Being a respiratory therapist allowed me to see the whole hospital, since we follow patients from the ER, unconscious and intubated, to months later fully mobile. I’ve always had a systems lens, which is what you need to make changes.
At Peace Arch Hospital, it’s like family; porters say hi to you. Family is important to me. I have an identical twin brother. My wife and I have a three year old daughter. We fell in love at Royal Columbian Hospital…working in the cardiac unit! I’m a neat freak and a visual learner and I love music. Bon Jovi is my favourite band. But I’ve never seen Star Wars. I don’t even know who Yoda is.”
