“They helped me change my life through just being there,” said Shawn, a client with the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team.
The Abbotsford/Mission ACT team took to the streets last year, supporting clients who have not responded well to traditional mental health programs and services. These clients are very vulnerable and hard to reach.
The Abbotsford News interviewed Shawn, diagnosed as a teenager with a psychotic disorder, who turned to drugs and spent 20 years in prison. The ACT team, and people like Jolene, a peer support specialist who herself was once homeless and addicted to drugs, support clients everyday.
