Registration to the Fraser Health Hackathon is now sold out, so this weekend more than 80 members of the Vancouver-area technology community will gather with health care experts to solve some of health care’s biggest challenges. Can’t be there? Follow along on Twitter at #FHhackathon

One participant wants to put his technology skills and hackathon experience to work toward a cause that’s close to his heart. “In the past few years, a few close relatives have been diagnosed with cancer. It hit me especially hard when my mother and my wife were diagnosed. I am extremely appreciative of the health care system and want to find ways to give back, and I see the hackathon as a place to start, to use my skills to give back,” he said.

The Fraser Health Hackathon will take place January 21-22, 2017, in partnership with TELUS, Innovation Boulevard, the City of Surrey and SFU Surrey. Computer programmers, software developers, graphic designers, business management and marketing specialists, among others, will help create tools for:
  • the public to navigate the health care system and connect to resources;
  • health care leaders to better use data to make decisions;
  • public health emergencies such as the overdose crisis;
  • health care providers to communicate and collaborate more effectively;
  • and a wild card challenge for a great project that defies categorization.
Participants will be competing for prizes including:

Innovation Boulevard: Health Tech Innovation Foundation prize package
  • $700 cash prize
  • Two tickets to the B.C. Tech Summit in March 2017
  • A professional business and financial plan review.
