Dr. Karen Tee is a Clinical Psychologist and has been working with and for youth and families during the past 20 years. Her passion for Youth Mental Health began during graduate school and crystallized when she worked as team psychologist with one of the Surrey Child and Youth Mental Health teams. The challenges and achievements of youth transitioning into adulthood were of particular interest to her. Karen developed expertise in the area of early psychosis and in 2000, launched the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Program with her team. The EPI Program in Fraser Health is the leader for provincial initiatives in early psychosis.
Karen is the manager for Child, Youth and Young Adult Mental Health and Substance Use Services (CYYA MHSU). In addition to overseeing clinical operations of CYYA MHSU programs that serve young people and their families from Burnaby to Boston Bar, Karen is committed to planning services, especially those that have a health promotion and early intervention focus. In recent years, Karen and her team launched mindcheck.ca
, now a provincial website, and Speak Up
, funded by Coast Capital Savings, both of which are focused on mental health literacy, and support young people in taking charge of their own mental health.
