Older Adult Substance Use Counsellor, Community Mental Health and Substance Use Services
A registered social worker since 1996, Karla Scribner has spent two decades working with older adults and their families in the community who have issues with mental health and substance use.
In 1998, Karla co-authored, Substance Use does not stop at your door; A planning guide for care facilities, an education and information program to help residential care facilities develop alcohol policies. Recently, she presented on the topic of substance use and older adults to doctors, nurses and social workers who work with seniors at the Fraser Health Older Adult Community Mental Health Day at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Always a champion for people’s well-being, Karla is also the president of a microboard, a society of friends and family committed to advocating and supporting a man who has autism, a complex brain disorder.
To maintain her own personal well-being, Karla enjoys running, cooking, dancing and travelling. She has two teenage sons and is involved with the Parent Advisory Committee at her children’s school.
