Dr. Margaret Blackwell
Cardiology, emergency heart diagnoses and care
Dr. Margaret Blackwell started out as a Licensed Practical Nurse, then became a Registered Nurse, followed by a Critical Care Nurse and Assistant Head Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. She obtained her medical degree at the University of British Columbia while working as a nurse part-time. After working as a locum, or temporary replacement doctor, for family practitioners in New Westminster, she returned to the University of British Columbia to specialize in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, doing extra training in Transesophageal Echocardiography. She enjoys teaching medical students, and is an examiner for their final medical exams.
Being a cardiologist is far from her original dream of being a cartoonist for Walt Disney, but she loves her work. She also enjoys long walks and bike rides along the Boundary Bay Dyke Trail in Delta.
